Fifteen individuals have been selected as the 2006 inductees into
the South Dakota Hall of Fame. The South Dakota Hall of Fame, located
in Chamberlain, recognizes and honors pioneers and leaders who have
contributed to the development and heritage of South Dakota. This
year's inductees were chosen from a list of 72 nominees.
Professional: Marcella Ryan LeBeau
of Eagle Butte had a 31-year career as a nurse with the Indian
Health Service in Eagle Butte and is a founding member of the North
American Indian Women's Association. A member of the Army Nurse
Corps in Europe during World War II, she was one of 100 U.S. WW
II veterans to receive the French Legion of Honor medal in 2004.
Close to 600 South Dakotans have been
selected for recognition since the Hall of Fame was established
in 1974. Each year, photographs and information about current inductees
are on display at the Hall of Fame, along with additional exhibits
of historical importance to South Dakota. Information on the 2005
inductees will be on display until after the 2006 induction ceremonies
September 15-16 at the Ramkota in Watertown.
The Hall of Fame, situated along Interstate 90 at the Chamberlain
exit, is open to the public. There is no admission charge. Find
